I had a wonderful time at CBC Radio and I am so grateful to the delightful host Robyn Bresnahan, the Ottawa Morning team and Denise Fung for the amazing opportunity and warm welcome. This interview took place on the 19th anniversary of my dad’s death and I like to think he was listening to me speak about his charming yellow grocery store that he operated with my mom. They both worked hard to support our family. If the spirit moves you, check out the interview:

In the seventies and eighties, I was a student at Elgin Street Public School in Ottawa, Ontario and it was there my love of reading and writing began with the support of the amazing teachers I had, so I dropped off some copies of Samantha’s Sandwich Stand at my old school. It was wonderful to step in the hallways again and remember the hardworking and kind teachers who inspired me many years ago. I struggled with reading as a child and it was through the compassion and patience of my teachers that I overcame and became the writer I am today. I will never forget their kindness. Many thanks to them and to all the extraordinary teachers out there!

Inanna Publications Editor-in-Chief Luciana Ricciutelli
(19 February, 1958 – 14 December, 2020)
I am so sad and shocked about the passing of the brilliant, beautiful and kind Luciana Ricciutelli. I still remember the last time I saw my beloved publisher and friend at the Toronto launch of my novel The Allspice Bath and how she gave me this big, warm hug and welcomed my sisters, too, with the same enthusiasm and generosity. I am so glad I had the opportunity to work with her. I will miss her emails, her kindness, her encouragement and her friendship. She nurtured many writers over the years and gave our voices a chance to be heard. My thoughts and prayers are with her husband and children. My deepest sympathy to her family, her colleagues, her friends and everyone at Inanna Publications. Thank you, Lu, for everything. Rest in peace. With love and gratitude.
